2 Reasons Why You Should Not Mass Market Your Products

Are you in a business that contains hundreds or even thousands of products? What’s your strategy for selling all of these products? And what is their pricing structure? Are you trying to sell all of your products all at once – or are you marketing them solely one at a time? I’ve been on both ends of the spectrum, so I can speak with expertise here today.

By far the best way to market your products if you have a lot of them is to market them one at a time. When you market your products all at once, you confuse your prospects. Instead, lead them step-by-step through the marketing process, so that they can arrive on a product solution that fits their needs.

A lot of women who have an Avon business find themselves selling more than one product at a time. This is OK if you have a store and people walk in day-in and day-out, but when it comes down to marketing your products via direct marketing, you should focus on just one way to sell your items.

Even the big corporations do this. Whenever you see a Wal-mart commercial come on, you will see that even though they have thousands of products, they only market them one at a time. I can remember a commercial where this guy was promoting only 3 items:
ice cream, pillows, and cakes. I’m sure they’ve done their testing, and have probably found that offering one product at a time is the best solution for them.

Let’s take a look at a few reasons why you shouldn’t mass market all of your products:

1) You’re targeting no one

When you mass market your place of business, you will reach no one. It’s best to carve out little niches for yourself and operate in a competition free zone. Because I’m guessing that more than likely, your competitors are marketing their business to the mass also – which isn’t a great idea.

It’s like the blind following the blind. They probably copy some of your ads and maybe you even copied some of their ads. No matter what the situation is, you should know that this isn’t an effective form of marketing your business. Let’s take another look at why you shouldn’t mass market your products.

2) People don’t know what it is that you sell

This kind of goes back to reason number 1 above. How are you going to get people into your business if they have no idea what it is that you’re offering them? Don’t try to market your business like a grocery store or a dollar store – because people already have a good idea of what it is that these two stores have to offer. But if you’re a unique small business owner, you can’t market your business this way.

Stick with promoting one product at a time, and you will have the most success in your business than you have ever had before. I am a living testament to this concept, so you should believe me when I tell you that this is the best way to market your products and services.

Good luck with using these tips to make more money in your business.
